Thinking of Marriage? Here are the Requirements
Posted Under: Dating Strategies
It’s amazing how much time people spend thinking about marriage, searching for the right person, and even making plans for their future wedding while still looking for the right partner. Yet these same people will not spend much time thinking about how to make sure the one they wed is right for them.
Of course your future wedding day is going to be a big event, but it is important to realize that it is only the first step in something much bigger. Getting married is a major commitment and it should be treated with the proper respect and consideration. The failure to analyze one’s personality traits and what one expects in a compatible partner is perhaps the reason why so many marriages end in failure.
The fact that divorce is relatively quick and inexpensive (unless you’re rich and have a huge estate to be settled) and that it has become more socially acceptable over the years probably has a lot to do with it. The frequency of divorce among celebrities, who serve as role models for many Americans, probably doesn’t help.
Unfortunately, a broken marriage can entail a considerable amount of pain and scarring. it’s not easy to see your dreams of happiness with someone fall apart. Add to this the fact that a large percentage of people who get divorced regret it.
Is there anything you can do to avoid this trap? Yes. First, you should be realistic. Your husband or wife can certainly be your friend, but you shouldn’t expect them to supply you with all your needs. You must know how to be happy on your own before you can expect someone else to make you happy.
Becoming part of a couple doesn’t mean forgetting how to be independent. You should show your partner love, loyalty and respect. You should give them the freedom to lead their own life while extending the same courtesy to you in return.
Your spouse should be able to go out with friends and have a nice time without being given the third degree upon returning home. Your relationship will be more successful if both parties have some breathing room.
If you have children, your relationship should still be a priority. After all, the kids will eventually grow up and leave home, and you don’t want to be left in the company of a virtual stranger.
Be sure to do things as a couple. Spend some quality time together. Nurture your relationship and do little things to show your love and appreciation for each other. Surprise your spouse with a little romantic gesture every once in a while—not just on special occasions such as your wedding anniversary, Valentine’s Day or their birthday.
The Magic Of Making Up not only gives you instructions on how to get your ex back, but gives tons of tips on how to keep your marriage healthy. So stop worrying about the minor things of marriage and concentrate on the things that really matter to make sure your marriage is one that lasts forever.
